How can I prevent or handle public tantrums in my three year old toddler?
My son is just a little over three and has always been very good natured until the last three weeks. He is now having daily tantrums that last for about an hour. My main concern is when he has these tantrums in public and how I should handle it? One of his triggers is when I pick him up from the gym daycare. He doesn’t want to leave so he he goes into complete meltdown mode telling me to go away and that he hates me. What am I suppose to do? Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

i am going through the same things with my 2 year olds. this is how i handle the situation:
-first i tell them to stop (usually never works but i think its important to tell them)
-second if it continues tell them that if he doesn’t stop then you are going to go sit in the car until he does
-if he doesn’t stop at this point- put down whatever you have pick him up and carry him to the car (this may cause a scene but he has to know that in public you are still in charge)
-sit in the car until he calms down and tell him that if it happens again you are going home and he is going to go (what ever punishment you do at home)
-go back to whatever you were doing like nothing happened
-if it happens again go home

it also works to have a treat or a spacial snack in the car for the ride home for if he is good. make sure he knows about them before you go do what you are doing and he doesn’t get them if he has an outburst

I think it’s great that you’re open to suggestions and are being proactive with parenting. This issue is very common and there are definitely some proactive things you can do to help the situation. I know it can be like a dagger to the heart when your kid says that they hate you, but it’s not true, he’s probably having trouble finding the right words and phrases to communicate his frustration.
Regarding the day care, when you go to pick him up, if you have ten minutes to spare, spend some time with him there, let him show you what he learned or what happened and all the while you should take little moments here and there to mentally prepare him that it will be time to go in a few minutes. Start having him say goodbye to his friends and care providers and assist him in gathering his things, etc. Another idea is to talk to the day care providers and see if they would be willing to talk with him and begin to mentally prepare him to leave, letting him know about ten minutes prior to your arrival and again five minutes before you get there. It would help you out if they could even get him to help pick up toys and gather his things ahead of time so that it’s not as much of a shock or surprise when you show up to get him. Kids his age don’t have a concept of time, which is why they need so much direction and reminders.
It may seem easier to just stay home more often but this will only delay the issue and make situations more difficult for you later. Before leaving the house, begin by setting clear, simple expectations for your child (in a way that doesn’t come off as a threat, but rather supportive and encouraging). The first thing to remember when your child begins to act up or misbehave in public is to remain calm. Instead of completely removing them from the situation, see if there is a more isolated place that would still be considered "public" and teach to it there. Disciplining children while in a public place is actually a unique and vital teaching opportunity for them. It may be a good idea to do a few

First off, the only movie from the Halloween series worthy of the actual holiday is the original John Carpenter’s Halloween from 1978. Moving through your list, I would only recommend the following movies: numbers 2, 4, 6, 14, 20, 24. There are so many more that you didn’t list that are much better than those that you did. Why wasn't his second race at Santa Anita included in the move Seabiscuit?
It is considered maybe the greatest race ever. He was small and carrying thirty more pounds than Stagehand. He was impeded at the beginning of the race and was six lengths behind the pack. He caught them took the lead and was beaten by a nose by Stagehand.

I didn’t get back to this question the other day in time to answer the person who asked if the number 10 horse in the race at Santa Anita was not Stagehand. Seabiscuit ran in the Santa Anita Handicap three times. The number ten horse in the movie was the first time (when Red Pollack could not see him coming up). The second time he was held way back and ran out of gas at the wire though he was in the lead. Third time he won after being the only champion ever to "come back". He might easily have won all three times.

Am i the only one in the world that feels so depressed over not having enough money?
I got a call from my landlady yesterday and i need to come up with $2450.00 by January 10th or else we have to get out.We have no where to go.We have no car,my husband is currently collecting unemployment he is an electrician and there just isn’t any work right now.I work 2 overnight shifts at Comfort Suites as a night auditor.We have 4 kids 3 boys who are 23,22,& 20 and a daughter who is 17 and in her last year of high school.My 20 yr old is working at our casino as a blackjack,poker,craps,roulette dealer and is making good money.He lives with my cousin.My 23 yr old has worked at a summer lodge and since it is off season, he only works like 2-3 days a week.He gets paid cash daily so about 40-50 bucks a days which is just enough to buy his cigs & weed.My 22 yr old doesn’t do sh!t. Except go and clean for his aunt at her house and in exchange for cigs & weed.Seeing as she is the big weed dealer out on our rez and pretty much rolling in the dough.We live in a small 2 bedroom apartment with me & my husband having one bedroom and our girl having the other one.The two boys sleep out in the living room and have turned my living room into their bedroom!They do not pitch in anything for rent,food, cable, internet,or even toilet paper,shampoo nothing!!I have asked, ranted, screamed and still no help whatsoever.I think they figure that as long as they split their weed with their dad it is all good.They are the reason we are so in the hole with the rent.It cost an easy 2-300.00 hundred dollars a week just to feed all of us.I have even thought of not buying groceries but then that is depriving my daughter.Man it was so nice when it was just me,her & my husband when we 1st moved in here.I can’t even just enjoy sitting in my living room cuz it more like just sitting in their bedroom which is always a mess,But my husband won’t let me say anything to them cuz might hurt their feelings,I am just so depressed and feel so hopeless.I am never going to come up with the $2400 i owe in back rent by the 10th of January.I don’t know what is going to come of us.I have terrible credit so there is no chance of getting a loan. I moved out when I was 18 years old and I have the best parents in the world. My sister is kinda like your sons. They ONLY difference is that she lives with my parents. She is 23 and on drugs and has a five year old son that my parents pretty much raises. It makes me sick. When he was in diapers, THEY bought them and worse of all even changed him. He would wake up with the pissest diaper ever and my mom would have to change him every time. I stopped there so many times to visit and just wnated to punch my sister.. He even calls my parents his mom and dad. That is sad, isn’t it?

I feel sorry for you, your husband and daughter. You daughter is 17 and shouldn’t have to live like that. Maybe she needs to try to find a job and save up money and get her own car since you or your husband don’t have one. I couldn’t imagine not having a vehicle. I have had a car since I turned 16 and I am 27 years old now and couldn’t imagine.

Why don’t you guys have a car paid for or saved up money all of these years?? I know that electricians make alot of money and you should have something to show for it! I am sure you husband can find SOMETHING to do to make money. Have you tried to apply for food stamps? Alot of people are doing it and if you need help, you NEED help. You have your 17 year old daughter and you might get over $500 a month in foodstamps and you can save that on two weeks worth of food and pay on your bills with that. Do you guys have HUD where you live? You can apply and I know here that they pay your rent for you and even give you a check to pay on your power bill if you don’t have get any income. Some places it takes a while to get on it after signing up though, but I know a girl who is on HUD right now, because she got laid off.

Life is getting really rough right now. Not just for you, but everyone. At least you don’t have grandkids to support, also or it would be really rough. Hopefully your daughter keeps straight and goes to college and makes something of herself. She can get grants and help on her boarding and stuff.

You could try writing to Ellen, Oprah, ect, but think about it.. How many of those letters do you think they get a day and emails, too.. You know they get tons of them, but you never know… They might do a show on economy and might just pick your letter.. It is kinda like winning the lottery though. You have a slim chance, but it might just be worth it!

Sounds like to me its time for the boys to go out in the real world or help you out there. But your right this sucks being poor. I am also collecting unemployment at the moment. But im out looking for jobs whether in my Field or not just to get by. So if your husband should go try and find something also even if not in his field of work. Hope i did not offend you.

There are so many things wrong with your situation that I don’t know what to say.

It sounds like except for you and your daughter, you are living with a bunch of lazy good for nothing pot smokers that are more concerned with where their next joint is coming from than where they are going to lay their head tonight.

What a pack of losers. I’d tell you that you need to get away from them but I doubt that you would. You seem to be the only one that’s worried about the money problem.

wow next time dont wait so long to pay the rent. always be working to make more money, hustle up some business ! maybe you and dont smoke weed but your sure acting like it. nobody is take care you accept yourselves. hell im depressed about about not havin enough money too, and i have four kids,, a house payment, a truck payment, and still have 15,000 in the bank, but i want 150,000 in the bank. you see im 135,000 short. Im laid off today and work has been slow the past year. I made about 50,000 last year, my wife about 12,000 (part time) thats about half as much as the year befor. you have to be very aggressive and never let up. now youll have excuse me, ive got to get to work to make a bunch of money wth my day off!

Your husband is a douche. "Husband won’t let me say anything to them cuz might hurt their feelings". WTF? They are 23,22 and 20! Your sons are adults. If they aren’t going to school then they should ALL have a job. I’ll do anything for my kids, but once they become adults they better start acting like one and get a job so they can learn to support themselves. You AND your husband should be making them realize that they need to start taking some responsibility for their lives and futures. They need to learn to be MEN, not live the rest of their lives as boys that always depend on their parents. IMO

First and foremost, you need to get the cigs&weed out of your lives. Your hubby needs to grow up and learn.

1: Cigs cost a ton nowadays. Sounds like each person is a pack a day smoker. That costs about 50 or more per week per smoker. Hubby+2 sons = 150 a week. Half of your grocery bill. Just to smoke. I used to smoke. I know how hard it is.

2: your grocery bill is 200-300 because these tokers have the constant munchies. In my family of 5, it costs up to about $150 a week, ocassionally going up to $200 a week for food.

3: Everyone is feeling the pinch nowadays. I’m employed, but my pay is down 20% due to pay cuts. I haven’t had a raise in years, and the cost of living only goes up.

You aren’t the only one. But it sounds like you are the only one working or even doing anything in your household. Everyone else only cares about themselves and getting high. This might be a stern wake up call for you, that you might need to make a more major lifestyle change in order to survive.
