How big does a pomeranian/papillon mix grow to be?
I have seen pictures and i am considering getting one i was told my dog had to be small because my family already has many big dogs. I’m NOT asking how big a Papillon or Pomeranian individually are i mean a mix of both. they seemed pretty big in the pictures so i’m thinking it’s a bad idea because i need a smaller dog.I need to know if its the same size as a Papillon or Pomeranian or if its much bigger like it appears. thanks

it would be a small dog..around 5 to 7 pounds.
vis | Feb 05, 2010

It will be the same size as those dogs or somewhere in between. However, many mixed breed dogs like this are sold by backyard breeders and come from dogs that do not meet breed standards. I would suggest buying either a pom or a pap from a reputable breeder (with references)… not a mix of both if you want to be SURE of the size. However, a mix of the two dogs, IF they are about the size these dogs should be, won’t be larger than the parent dogs (normally).
Molly Anne | Feb 05, 2010

There is no way to know what size a mix will be & depends on the sizes of both parents & lineage. It could be smaller than the average pap or pom or twice as large. If you need a specific sized dog, adopt a older puppy or adult dog so you know exactly what you are getting. Many of the smaller sized breeds are much larger than their breed standard due to poor & over breeding which intentionally breeding for a mix ensures it is not from a reputable breeder.
joanplus4dogs | Feb 05, 2010

A mutt can have any combination of traits from either parent. You can’t predict what the dog will turn out like.

Why not just get a purebred papillon or a purebred pomeranian?

No reputable breeder would breed mutts, and it’s pretty hard to be that particular when you’re looking to adopt from a shelter.
.
abbyful | Feb 05, 2010

Lets see…

A pomeranian is usually 3-7 lbs as an adult
A papillion is usually 7-10 lbs

So a mix would probably be around 5-10 lbs, which is small.

I suggest looking at dogs in rescues/shelters, there are lots of small dogs, and you would be able to see in person if they’re the right size.
VeryBored | Feb 05, 2010

Well I don’t know what pictures you’ve seen, but both Papilions and Pomeranians are very small, and they’re both around the same size.

An adult Pomeranian is around 5.0-11 inches, or 13-28 centimetres. So maybe around that size.
me<3 | Feb 05, 2010

A Pomeranian is a "toy" size. A Papillon is a medium size. (think about cocker spaniel size). A lot depends on the breeding, if the stud and bitch are smaller in size. Also, if you get the runt. The fur of a Pomeranian makes them look bigger than they really are, and Papillons tend to be on the smaller side of spaniels, so I would imagine they would tend to be on the smaller side, but certainly not anything like a Chiahuahua.
Wow, this sounds like a really weird combination. Genetics work with dogs the same they work in people.
deb.peg1 | Feb 05, 2010

could be small

but MUTTS are UNPREDICTABLE

Flight of the Phoenix (2004)

Luggage transfer when flying standby?
In a few months I will be flying from Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport with a stop in San Francisco, with a final destination at Honolulu Airport. My layover in SFO is about 4 hours. When I arrive in SFO, I was thinking about checking with customer service to see if I could get on the standby list for an earlier flight to HNL. If I do this, will my luggage end up on the later flight that I was booked for? Or would they transfer it to my standby flight? (Not too sure how the luggage is handled)

you will be flying United and I can tell you now that United does not offer standby unless the original flight is delayed or at risk of cancellation. But for general knowledge I’lll tell you how standby usually works with bags, there must be at least one hour from when you ask to move flights and the earlier flight time, the airline needs this time to find your bag and re-tag it. They will either put a standby tag on it and when boarding the ramp agent will ask the gate agent "did this passenger make it on?" if you do then the bag will be loaded, or the bag will be put on the flight regardless and you’lll just be told to claim your bag in the luggage claim office when you get to your final destination on the original later flight. if you get on the earlier flight but your bag doesn’t make it you can not file a delayed bag claim because you voluntarily separated from the bag, you will have to come back tot he airport later to pick it up.

your best course of action is to ask United about moving to an earlier flight when you are in PHX, this way your bag can be tagged fro standby before you leave and you don’t have to worry about it (and yes they have this capability, don’t let anyone tell you "you’ll have to do this when you get in SFO" because they are being lazy, every person can do the same stuff from every computer in every station.

| Feb 01, 2010

I don’t know for sure, but I think that it would end up on your originally scheduled flight. One way to get a better answer would be to call the airline and ask them. You could also just wait until you get to SFO and inquire about standby on the earlier flight, then ask the agent about that.

Given that your bag will be one out of thousands that are being handled during your layover, it seems like a lot of effort to find 1 bag. You might be pleasantly surprised to find out that they will do it, however. Give them a call.
Roger K | Feb 01, 2010

It depends on how busy they are.

Check in nice and early in Phoenix and ask the what the situation is. If the earlier HNL is full, they’ll tell you not to bother. If the earlier flight has space, ask then about the bags. Head for the customer service desk right as soon as you land in SFO if you’ve been given the "green light" in Phoenix.

Basically, if the later flight is full or even overbooked, you’d be doing them a favor by letting them "get rid" of you and freeing up an extra seat on your booked flight they might need.

Sometimes, they even propose this to customers so you’re not being unreasonable.

If you are a frequent flyer, be sure to mention this and have your card. If you’re not, you may want to sign up. United, for example, it’s free and that might give you some more clout. Can’t hurt!

If your bags don’t get transferred, asked if they’ll be delivered to your hotel. You may want to tuck a swimsuit in your carry-on just in case. Better waiting next to the hotel pool than at the airport, right?

Good luck and have a great time in Hawaii!

is fantastic mr fox ok for kids to see?
Not that i would contemplate "illegally" downloading it for personal viewing pleasure of my family… But IS fantastic mr fox ok for children? my brothers are 11 and 12

decently "sheltered" but cussing and stuff is generally ok

they just saw avatar

Well that movie has some guns, and there shouldn’t be much blood. There is a moral too.
But then again, if they can handle Avatar, then Fantastic Mr. Fox would be completely fine. But if they really (REALLY) liked Avatar, they might think that the movie might be too childish… Though it is just my opinion.

Hope that helped. :)

Vegetarians and Vegans, what wrong with eating meat?
We humans are also food(meat) for animals.Haven’t you seen the movie The Lion King?It the circle of life.

I certainly can agree with your pseudonym.
owlcroft | Jan 11, 2010

Some vegetarians just don’t eat meat because they don’t want to eat animals. Whats the point? THe animals they were going to eat are already dead!! Some other people do it because they can’t digest meat very well which is easy to understand.
Zoeycakester | Jan 11, 2010

Because some people find it a healthy lifestyle or some do it because of animal rights (PETA for an example) or some just don’t like meat and/or dairy. (There might be other reasons but I don’t know them)
Miss Cheerleader :) | Jan 11, 2010

Actually… Animals DO NOT eat us, or we will kill said animal for being crazy.
Unless you mean the maggots or whatever that get in our graves when we die.

Some people just don’t like animal cruelty and would rather go without meat.
I know some vegans/vegetarians that wouldn’t mind eating meat, it’s the fact that the animals are couped up in confined spaces, not much good food, and shot up with steroids everyday.
It’s not a fun way to live… Even though the maggots get to eat us in the end, we got to live our lives freely, doing whatever we please… The animals we eat aren’t so lucky.
Oh not to mention, we die when we die… Natural causes.
Animals get killed, cruely slaughtered.
If a human got slaughtered, someone pays the price.

And then I know some vegetarians/vegans who just do it to test there own will power and bodily strength. :)
Yourmom_1227 | Jan 11, 2010

There is nothing wrong with eating meat. Vegetarian just would rather enjoy the wholesome goodness of carrots.
Woody (King Carrot) | Jan 11, 2010

Its a choice a person makes. They may not like meat. A lot don’t like supporting the meat industry. Many do it to help keep the plant cleaner. Some think its healthy. Some do it for religious reasons. Meat might make some people sick. Some people are just raised vegetarians. In some countries meat is too expensive. The list goes on.

I’m a vegetarian, but I don’t think anything is wrong with eating meat. A person can be perfectly healthy eating meat. I just don’t choose to eat it because my body feels healthier and better without it. But see that’s me personally.
Lita | Jan 11, 2010

So, because a carnivore would eat me that means I need to eat him? Better tell all those stupid herbivores they have the wrong idea.
Hannibal The Cannibal | Jan 11, 2010

Shut up you can hardly speak English. Vegetarians and vegans are fine, calm down.
cobr@ star$hip | Jan 11, 2010

The lion king for starters is a CARTOON!
And I don’t remember them eating humans, I should know since that’s my favorite movie since i was 2.

Now, "I" thinkeating meat is wrong, because a animal is a human. Take this as an example. They use animals to test on to make sure we don’t have reactions to the product which means an animal has to be similar or it wouldn’t work. Plus I think it’s wrong to eat something that once had a beating heart and was some ones family.
smileyrawr? <3 | Jan 11, 2010

It’s people like you that are really ignorant and stupid. I suggest if you want to know why some people choose not to eat meat, you watch Meet your Meat on the internet. Google it. If people want to eat meat then they can do so, I’m not going to shove my lifestyle choices down their throats. However, don’t you look down on us for choosing not to eat animal carcusses that were killed pointlessly and cruelly.

I agree that it goes along with the food chain to eat meat. Just because I’m a vegetarian doesn’t mean I’m trying to change the food chain and force people to stop eating meat. I just don’t like the taste of it, or the thought of eating animals. It’s a personal thing.
blinds. | Jan 11, 2010

I eat meat and vegetables. I do agree that people may choose whatever they want to be. Though my whole perspective for the meat eaters side is when the people of Israel were hungry god gave them dove. im sure they ate vegetables too but just think about that.

Nothing, I just don’t like it. You can choose to eat meat if you want. Just don’t bug me about it.
Britni | Jan 11, 2010

I am in the process of turning because I find the idea of raising an animal for the kill sick and inhumane and also the way theyre treated. Basically, they arent given a chance in life. It’s not the food chain if we raise for the slaughter and kill any animal (eg crocodile) that eats a human.

yes i is awsome!!!! the book is about 12 year old Meggie Folchart. Her life changes when she realizes that her dad Mortimer [called 'Mo'], who is also a book-binder, has a special gift. He has the ability to bring characters from books into the real world whenever he reads aloud. therefore one could imagine being Meggie. the last books are good too

Well, I really enjoyed Inkheart, but it was originally meant to be a single book, not a trilogy. When I heard that a second was coming out, i was excited to read it, but it really did not compare with the first book, and I haven’t even bothered to read Inkdeath. So yes, Inkheart was really good, but I would stop there if I were you.

Jesus Christ how did you type all that crap out?

And just recently I started to read a lot, and started to appreciate it a lot more thanks to my girlfriend. She reads a LOT. So I got a couple books I thought I’d be interested in, and I’m starting to really like it.

So far my favorites are:

1.) The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath
2.) The Shining by Stephen King
3.) Diary by Chuck Palahniuk
4.) 7 Steps To Midnight by Richard Matheson (I really recommend this to anyone who likes thrillers and suspense novels)

And right now I’m trying to finish Rant and Haunted both by Chuck Palahniuk.

wtf… O.o… i only read about like 4-5 books in my whole lifetime lol.

Si, I am. :D My list of books hasn’t changed from the last time you did a question like this, so I won’t re-post it.
Ghoast Kitteh | Nov 21, 2009

answer: Absolutely! I don’t want electronics or anything, I always ask for books.
Butch Vlad – Heathen JPA | Nov 21, 2009

Good selection. I was just turned on to the Pendergast series by Preston & Child a few months ago.

Based on your list, try Terry Pratchett’s Discworld books. They’re satirical fantasy at it’s best.

Wait, the Cat in the Hat counts?

I could’ve been using it all this time…
Clay | Nov 21, 2009

I’ve read alot of those.
Crap, that actually surprised me.
Did you read Edgar Rice Burroughs, Dame Agatha Christie, Robert Louis Stevenson, that lady who writes about the siamese cat?
I’ve read a pile of Sci-fi that would make you sick.
all of Louis L’Amour and Zane Grey too
The entire collection of plays and poems by Bill Shakespeare as well. (That took quite a bit) and some early English epic poems by Chaucer (the Green Knight)

I’ve upwards of 150 books spanning several genres(I really don’t want to list them all).
One of my favourite words,bibliophile.

I can tell you are!
I own hundreds and hundreds of books, many of which I really like, so I’m also a bibliophile!
It helps I suppose because I want to be a fiction writer.

Artificial Intelligence: AI
Artificial Intelligence: AI (2001)

IMDB rating: 6.80

Plot: In the not-so-far future the polar ice caps have melted and the resulting raise of the ocean waters has drowned all the coastal cities of the world. Withdrawn to the interior of the continents, the human race keeps advancing, reaching to the point of creating realistic robots (called mechas) to serve him. One of the mecha-producing companies builds David, an artificial kid which is the first to have real feelings, especially a never-ending love for his “mother”, Monica. Monica is the woman who adopted him as a substitute for her real son, who remains in cryo-stasis, stricken by an incurable disease. David is living happily with Monica and her husband, but when their real son returns home after a cure is discovered, his life changes dramatically. A futuristic adaptation of the tale of Pinocchio, with David being the “fake” boy who desperately wants to become “real”.

What do you think is the future of artificial intelligence (AI)?
In other words, where do you see this field of research to eventually go, and what will be the consequences of it for the future generations?
Yes chankero, it is exactly on point. Two good answers! Thanks for sharing your opinions.

A survey of the sci-fi pop media might give us an idea about the answer to your question. Granted that they do not encompass all possible future scenarios and/or may generally be over the top.

For one we will see more household helpers like the Roomba vacuum cleaner.

Transport solutions will be revolutionized with increasing amounts of sensors and sophisticated mechanisms for collision avoidance, traffic management and so on.

Major impact will be felt in industry and research where automated intelligent robots will make humans increasingly redundant.

One area where I would be really concerned to see AI being employed is in law enforcement esp. if deadly force is involved. Robocop scenarios will be to detriment of the society. But something tells me that law enforement agencies will gladly go for it in the interest of safety of officers and human volunteers. A case in point is the use of tasers which can be deadly in some cases.

Does this come close to answering your question?

It’s going to usher an era equivalent to the Cambrian Explosion, the time about 530 million years ago when a dizzying array of diversification of life occurred. There so many facets to the trend of AI, all the permutations of combining AI, cybernetics, internet, human intelligence, human DNA engineering, that over the next few centuries we will witness an equally dizzying array of diversification of forms of intelligent life. Ordinary genetic evolution through natural selection will be moving at a geological pace compared to this new development, so all the usual expectations of how man will naturally evolve over the next millenia will be off the table. Legal and political systems will most likely only barely be able to keep up, or perhaps not at all, with the rapidly changing questions and social values, as novel forms of intelligent life will come onstream.

Believing that AI will never lead to autonomous sentient beings is wishful whistling in the dark, like believing that man will never be able to engineer life through DNA modification. Even the very question of mortality could become moot.

Oh yeah, the Olympics Committee of the future are going to have a problem.

I like to see it going in establishing the world peace, joy and harmony.

Do not make any mistake about the answer. I think that individual industry that can be easily benefited will continue do so. It will be just another business tool for them.
I think it will promote personal peace and joy through out the world. Because of AI people will feel more empowered about human potentials can it can definitely help to bring the good out of us on individual level.
